The Common Thread

So there are a bazillion posts on this topic but I have never heard of it before someone posted about it on AT:TNL. I thought it was such a great idea that I decided to write my own blog post about it to spread the word. It's called the "Common Thread Project" and it's purpose is to spread awareness for women who suffer from infertility and pregnancy loss. Those suffering from cancer, diabetes, or other conditions have a ribbon dedicated to their cause that serves not only as a reminder to the struggle they've gone through, but also as a way to connect with others in similar situations. So why doesn't infertility have it's own ribbon? Well, apparently it does!

That's what the Common Thread project is about. Women going through infertility are suffering from a wide range of issues, whether it be PCOS, endometriosis, MFI, MA's, or others. But we all share the common bond unique to women who have struggled trying to conceive. We know pain, heartache, and grief. But most of the time we suffer in silence, either out of shame, guilt, or the need to keep such a personal struggle private.

The Common Thread is a pomegranate colored thread or bead that represents infertility. It is a symbol of hope and recognition of our struggle. So this weekend I hope to have some time to create my bracelet. I have a design picked out so hopefully I have the skills to create something beautiful I can wear as a reminder to myself to stay hopeful.

So if you ever see a woman wearing a pomegranate colored thread or bead, ask her what it represents. I think this is a great way for us to find each other by recognizing the Common Thread. Because the support of a fellow infertile is priceless. :)

So here's my bracelet!
